Dr Alan Cheung is an experienced Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon born and raised in England. His areas of specialty are sports injuries and joint reconstruction, particularly through advanced robotic surgical techniques such as Navio, Robodoc and Makoplasty.
Dr Cheung was educated in Cambridge, England and obtained his medical degree from University College London. He completed his surgical training in Trauma and Orthopaedics in London, and underwent his Fellowship training in Joint Reconstruction and Musculoskeletal Oncology at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney, Australia. He has always been a keen athlete and played for Cambridge Rugby Club as a youth. Currently he trains in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at Evolve Mixed Martial Arts. He regularly competes in BJJ and has won gold in tournaments in Singapore and Japan. When not practicing martial arts, Dr Cheung enjoys golf, cycling and skiing.
Prior to establishing the International Orthopaedic Clinic, Dr Cheung was a Consultant at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital. He has a passion for teaching and was a Clinical Lecturer at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, teaching medical students and Orthopaedic residents. He has also been an international instructor for Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS). He was an instructor on the first ever Hip and Knee reconstruction course held in Myanmar. He is regularly invited to teach on courses in the Asia-Pacific region, instructing other surgeons how to perform the latest techniques in sports and joint reconstruction surgery. He has published in numerous peer-reviewed journals and presented at many international conferences.

Thereafter, he went on to work at the prestigious Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore, followed by St Thomas’ Hospital in South London, before completing his training with a Fellowship in Joint Reconstruction and Musculoskeletal Oncology at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney, Australia.
An athlete himself, Dr Cheung has had his fair share of experiences with sports injuries. Pair this with his patients, many of whom see him after sustaining sports injuries, Dr Cheung became inspired to obtain a Sports Medicine diploma from the Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine, UK, giving him greater skill and knowledge in treating athletes.
Prior to setting up his own practice, Dr Cheung was a Consultant at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital. At the same time, he was a Clinical Lecturer at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine at the National University of Singapore, teaching medical students and Orthopaedic residents alike.
Dr Cheung was also an international instructor for Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), helping doctors improve the care of trauma patients.
A recognised figure in orthopaedic surgery, Dr Cheung is regularly invited to hold courses in the Asia-Pacific region, teaching other surgeons how to perform the latest techniques in sports and joint reconstruction surgery.
A keen athlete who played for the Cambridge Rugby Club in his youth, Dr Cheung currently trains in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) at Evolve Mixed Martial Arts. He regularly competes in BJJ and has won gold in tournaments in Singapore and Japan. When he’s not practicing martial arts, Dr Cheung enjoys golf, cycling and skiing.
Says Dr Cheung, “As a sportsman who has played a variety of sports and recovered from bilateral shoulder dislocations, and various knee and ankle injuries, I can understand where my patients are coming from. This helps me empathise and build trust, and I can discuss injury management and recovery in an intelligent way.”
Taking his interest in sports and profession as an orthopaedic surgeon to the next level, Dr Cheung is also the first American College of Sports Medicine-Certified Ringside Doctor in Southeast Asia, and actively provides medical coverage for numerous international sporting events.
In particular, he leads the local medical team for the One Championship mixed martial events in Singapore, and was also the matchday doctor for the Singapore HSBC Rugby Sevens 2018 held at the National Stadium.
